(brown pelican, found at wikimedia commons under cc)
As we see damage being done to the Gulf Coast due to oil spills in the ocean. We notice that we are lacking damage to our brown pelicans. They are common throughout North America's Southeastern coast and they are an important part of the ecosystem.
The Brown Pelican is protected by laws. The bird is a great fisherman and isn't really too afraid of humans. Along the fisherman's path the bird tends to the smaller one.
Dawn and many organizations that are saving the animals by washing the oil off of them are saving lives and making life better for the environment.
