The Carolina Wild Petunia is one that also grows in Alabama. It grows a little north of us in the Carolinas to the tips of Florida. The petunia is a wild perenial that creeps along with grasslands over the Mideastern to the Southeastern Coastline. The flower blooms spring, winter and fall. The flowers can be blue as the vector painting in the left hand corner of the entry or they can be a light violet purplish color.
The flower was named after Herbalist Jeane Ruelle. They have hearty stems and leaves that are loved by caterpillars and other bugs. Ruellia caroliniensis
is the latin name for the ruella. Ruellas are known to be poisonous and they are ornamental plants like Oleander or other flowers with poisonous capabilities.
The Carolina Wild Petunia would be a great flowerbed additive, many people buy flowers from Walmart without asking a neighbor about their wildflower stash. This would be a good exchange for a cup of sugar. :) free flower
