Muscadine Grapes
(creative commons muscadine vine)
Down below my donkey pin there are over a dozen vines loaded down with tons of these grapes. They are called muscadines and the leaves and grapes are safe to eat.
These grapes have a husky shell, sweet concord grape taste,
but 6 seeds inside each grape and a center you have to spit out.
They are named the "muscadine because they are about the shape of a dime and if you eat too much, some say you start to smell under the arms if eaten raw.
If you live around Southeast Alabama you'll recognize many of your neighbors will make a "Sour Mash" out of this and let it ferment into a wine that tastes better than anything you've tasted. There are also many who make pies, jellies and cakes from the grapes. You must learn how to fix the grapes first. They aren't poisonous, just wild grapes. Grocery stores sell the juices if you don't want to go outside and pick. Just leave those to the deers and pay a nice price for the juice.
