Cardinalis Linnaeus
This Cardinal is found throughout United States and Canada. There have also been sightings of this bird in Middle American Countries such as Guatemala and Belize. There are more of these little birds than ever before. I have seen packs of these flying around my home. They are in clusters mostly around Fall, Winter And Spring.
The beak of this little songbird is those of one that has a beak for crushing such things as berries, beetles, blossoms on elm trees and more. It eats the sap from holes of the yellow bellied sapsuckers from the maple and many other tree saps throughout the state. They love the alphia seeds that are dried on my grandmother's old trees.
The mating rituals are quite unique. The male actually feeds his sweetheart beak to beak and if the mating is successful he continues to do the same thing throughout the incubation period. The eggs of this bird are lavender, grey and blue.
Cardinals love popcorn. I used to pop it everyday and if I had some left over I would throw it into the yard. They would gather around and eat it by picking up a piece and flying into a nearby mimosa and eat it and then go for another one. They couldn't stay on the ground because of the cats.
