Zebra Mullusks
These small types of Mussels are found in freshwater as well as salt water. They were brought over from Europe and now reside in many places in the United States.
They started out within the Great Lakes according to NAS and found their way throughout the Southeast through lakes, rivers and etc. Any water they could travel in. They are one of the most invasive species of mussels in the south and don't go walking barefooted across the beach if you know these are present. They will cut your feet into. They have very sharp edged shells.
These mussels can destroy filtration systems, hydro-electric plants, and water irrigation systems. They are notorious for constricting flow of any type of system. They have issues just really, and you don't want them around.
Animals who feed on these pitifully evil creatures are crayfish, muskrats, roach fish and other smaller type of water bearing animals. If you are interested in dealing with this issue, do it naturally, and use the food chain to maintain all animal invasiveness, wow what a weird post. They make pretty shell necklaces if you want to thumb through the algae. Have a great day
