Grass Of Parnassus

(photo edited by samantha taylor original found at wikimedia commons under creative commons)

Grass Of Parnassus is found in the highlands of Appalachia. It's blossom looks like that of the wild crab apple that grows wild in Appalachia. Appalachia is found near ferns in boggy areas like an orchid almost. The flowers have five light green sepals that support a oval pedals that have veins which is more showier than most flowers and five stamen that are very fertile. The flower is lightest pink that you can notice.

This plant is in the endangered species category with the pitcher plant and many other flowers in the State. The flowers are perennials that come up every year . When the flower wilts, there is a brown seed inside that falls to the earth. If the birds don't take it, it later produces another flower or two. The flower is in the family of the saxifrage family. There are three known species in the Southeast.
