The Alabama Pinkroot is a beautiful flowering plant. It's latin name is Spigelia Gentainoides. In Alabama it is only in a few places like Bibb County and out of the state in a few places like Florida. It's on the federal endangered list because of it's place in the environment. Aquatic plants take a lot of moisture and require a place to take root right. The pitcher plant is alot like the tubular flower of the Pinkroot. The pinkroot obtains moisture through it's blossoms. It likes forests with water oak, lolobby pine and red oak. A good way to preserve most of Alabama's flowers is to preserve some areas away from loggers who tear down and burns shrubs. Another way, preserving extinct plants doesn't have to go as far as your local extension office to learn more about your extinction list or endangered species list..
