RedHead

(RedHead, Aythya Americana found at Wikimedia Commons under CC)

I was thumbing through birds after the fact that lizards give me willies and found this beautiful duck. This duck is native to our region. It is one of the most beautiful waterfowl in our region. You can find these birds along lakes in our state.
The male has a burnt red head and a blue beak and the female has a brown head and body. Both ducks, male and female have a set of deep yellow eyes.
They nest in marshes and prairie potholes. They lay eggs in other's nests like other type of ducks and mate with new partners every year. They will molt, leave their partner and sometimes remain flightless for a few months in between seasons. They feed on diving and dipping for small fish and critters. They come to the south during the winter from the northeast.
