Pondweed

(snipped from wikipedia under creative commons)

Pondweed is an aquatic plant that grows in fresh water areas of the state.  In last night's entry, I introduced you to the grass carp. Pondweed can be large or small. There are various types throughout the Southeast. The Pondweed can be as broad leaved or as limber as another limber aquatic plant. They have rhizomes that determine whether they can become an annual or a perrenial depending on wintering and other factors.
Animals that feed on pondweed aren't only grass carp but also waterfowl, insects and other fish. The Ruddy Duck, Widgeon and Vermillion Darter are a few who enjoy it's leathery leaves.
