Blackjack Oak Tree

(blackjack oak tree found at flickr by rich and royal hue)

The Blackjack Oak tree isn't one of the tallest oaks in Alabama, but has a long life expectancy that lasts for centuries. If you look inside the log of a blackjack, you'll notice deep rich, beautiful rings that tell it's age. I imagine if you looked, you'd probably take it to a carpenter and say, "Make me some hardwood floors from this tree!"
The acorns of this tree are enjoyed by whitetail deer, fox squirrel, turkey, and chipmunks as well as some small birds. Not only do they provide food from the acorns, but shelter as well.
Enjoy the Blackjack Oak Tree, snap a photograph in the beautiful landscapes that they bring to Alabama's beautiful scenery. Have a great day.
