Chinaberry trees are relatively small like a sassafras tree with a small trunk and limber limbs. This one in particular was taking during the fall. These trees are very lovely during this time because in their prime they turn a fiery orange and bear ovaries called china berries.
You probably beaded this as a kid, but don't let them play with it now, Don't let your kids play with this now!
The fact of the matter is, your mother told you never to eat them because they are extremely poisonous causing constipation, bloody bowels, pulmonary congestion, cardiac poisoning. You didn't know that this particular berry is used as a insecticidal sold in neem oil.
This plant was originally found in Australia and India. It was brought into our state of Alabama as a ornamental species in 1830-60. It's very invasive now because the fruits spread all over the place. If you see this in your yard, don't let your kids eat or pick the fruit. After picking up any type of poisonous berry, don't touch face, eyes or hands. Wash hands thoroughly and follow with antibacterial hand cream.
