The North American Persimmon Tree

(creative commons invasive.org)

This is a Common Persimmon tree from North America. It hangs out in the Southeast and stretches to New England. This tree is well known for it's fruits which are persimmons. During the summer the ovaries of the tree start to grow. They are little green fruits that will turn your mouth inside out if you even dare eat them green. During the summertime the tree's leaves are nice standard decidous leaves which are light green, shiny and a little jagged on the edges. The bark on one of these things are like aligator's scales. Not very pleasant to feel.  The tree is absolutely beautiful during spring to summer. Come fall this tree get ugly. The leaves turn crispy brown and the fruits turn orange and sweet.

There is a little marsupial that can only be found in the United States that loves this little tree. It's the Virginia Opossum. This is it's main hangout. The tree sometimes is called Possumwood because of the marsupial animal. To learn more about this little booger, go on to Native Animals From Alabama.  Thanks for reading this post, until next time
