Johnson grass

(photo of johnsongrass found at invasive.org under creative commons)

This type of Johnson grass is found throughout the state of Alabama. If you tried to pull it up , you'd get your hand cut.  If you want to pick it, pull it from the shoot  without holding the edges.
Johnson grass will grow as tall as you let it in your yard or brush outside your home, it bears as many seeds as it  can hold on it's heads. The grass has tiny branches holding tons of clusters. This particular seed can cause bloat to some of your livestock. If they continue to eat the johnson grass, it could cause serious health problems or even death. Rhizomes are found in this plant deep and thick.
