Red Honeysuckle

(lonicera sempervirens found at wikimedia commons under creative commons)

Red Honeysuckle can be found all over the Southeastern United States. It climbs trees and sprouts it's pretty red trumpet like flowers everywhere. Honeysuckle is very different in species. Our most  multiplying is the white that blooms in springtime and covers everything making it smell so good.

The Red seems to brighten up some of the most drab trees during the summertime. It tends to cluster more flowers and larger than the most common white. You find it more easily near water areas than anything else because it isn't too drought resistant. I have noticed more flowers near the
Martin Dam area and Coosa river.

The Red Honeysuckle drives such visitors as the ruby bellied hummingbird, the honey bee and more insects because of it's super sweet nectar. In Chinese medicine, some uses for honeysuckle was to clear the body of toxins and clearing heat. Other uses were for clearing your sinuses, treating rashes and getting rid of inflammation. There are not any known side effects from my sources. Have a great day and go spot some!
