Blessed Thistle (Silybum Marianum)

snipped from invasive.org/bugwood at
http://www.invasive.org/weedcd/species/4462.htm

Blessed Thistle is a member of the Asteraceae Family and invades meadows and fields where cattle dwell. It's poisonous to cattle and other types of livestock. Usually, they will pass up Bitterweed and others that blend in with forage. Blessed Milkthistle can be used in drought areas to help retain moisture in some situations.

Milkthistle  can also grow in lawns, but watch out they are pretty thorny. If you have small children, then you don't want to have them. They are very pretty to look at even being  poisonous and thorny. Below are the different parts of the plant, and the ovary. The seeds are like dandelion seeds. The wind  takes them where they need to go.
