This is a neat plant! It's in the sunflower family, has a nice magenta flower and makes a nice weed to chop down. Not many people like the musk thistle or the bull thistle which is it's closest cousin.
You usually find these flowers in pastures where cows like to graze. Some say their horses, goats and other types of livestock eat it. Many people get them out of the pastures because they think could harm your cattle if eaten.
For a pain in the ass plant, it is beautiful on the eye. Myself, I wouldn't bother it because I have no cattle to eat it. Cattle isn't the smartest animal on the farm, so they might have a go at it. Best thing to do is get as much of the roots up as you can.
