This is an a very adorable little bird to start with. The ones in Southern Alabama are slightly greener than this one. They love to hang out in marshes like our great blue heron. The bird makes a noise rather loud that says "kyow! kyow!"
During courtship, the little booger will go "raw raw!" It eats small fish, amphibians, insects, leeches and mice. The little bird comes from a classification of birds that have been here since prehistoric days. It's survival is necessary to compete with the ever growing population of these smaller animals that invade our wetlands. You can find the little heron in Opp, Mobile and wetter places throughout Alabama and Florida.
