Red Trillium

  The Red Trillium (Trillium Erectum) is found throughout the Southeastern areas. It's no stranger to any woodland area. The beauty of this flower is it's unusual properties. It is almost blood red or Alabama crimson. This particularly beautiful trillium is a little higher on the ground than others.
This particular one is called sometimes, Stinking Benjamin.
   These flowers are not known for their lovely smells that make you say "ah" in a glade moment. If you get too close and say something really stinks, you will say "ew!". The Red Trillium smells like rotting meat! You wouldn't think that a flower could put out that much nastiness! flies pollinate this potency stinking smelling trillium . The plant contains high potency of calcium oxalate  and crystal raphide. Do not consume, very poisonous. There is a fruit to the red trillium, it's a single berry on the plant. Native Americans have been known to use this plant to treat diseases with it.
